Theological Malpractice?

$8.00

By James V. Heidinger II

In this book, Dr. Heidinger’s many gifts as a writer are set in motion by a single passion, namely, to defend the faith on the basis of Scripture. He has brought together some of his strongest editorials written for Good News. They present his decisive stance against various doctrinal stirrings and movements which have appeared within United Methodism. As an editorial writer, his essays are necessarily limited to crisp, brief arguments.

Description

Theological Malpractice?
Essays in the Struggle for United Methodist Renewal
Author: James V. Heidinger II

In this book, the author’s many gifts as a writer are set in motion by a single passion, namely, to defend the faith on the basis of Scripture. He has brought together some of his strongest editorials written for Good News. They present his decisive stance against various doctrinal stirrings and movements which have appeared within United Methodism. As an editorial writer, his essays are necessarily limited to crisp, brief arguments.

The issues he takes up include the following: the authority of the Bible; tradition, reason and experience as aids to interpreting the Bible; the wording of the Trinity; intellectual and ethical relativism; pluralism; the so-called “Jesus Seminar”; Sophia and re-imaging; homosexuality; and abortion.

Dr. Heidinger, a United Methodist minister, pulls no punches as he calls upon the Council of Bishops to stand firmly on the authority of Scripture in keeping with the Wesleyan heritage. He appeals to others, including theological professors, to join in striving for doctrinal integrity.
